Civil Engineering is a fairly complex subject that requires a lot of brainstorming with tons of creativity. Understanding constructional logic, structural dynamics, turgidity of materials and quality of the product all falls under the duties of a Civil Engineer. Too, about the basics and advanced concepts of Civil Engineering, quizzes are really very helpful.



A quiz is a game which can also be called a mind sport wherein the players, either as individuals or in teams attempt to answer questions posed to them correctly in order to win a prize. I’m sure that we are all familiar with popular quizzes like the Limca quiz or the Cadbury Bournvita Quiz Contest (BQC). These are but just a few examples of quiz competitions that are held. Over the years’ people have been fascinated by these quizzes which have been broadcasted on television sets. And are still watched and enjoyed by children and adults alike even today!



The objective of quiz competition is to encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a relationship between theory and application of the learned concepts. Quizzes are conducted for different age groups and over varying cultures. Following are the benefits of quiz competition.
  • Quizzes help in improving or expanding one’s knowledge of things, either general or in a specific area.
  • Quizzes are designed to promote a fun way to study and in the process help improve one’s general knowledge.
  • Quiz competitions enables students to think from different angles or simply ‘to think out of the box’.
  • It promotes a healthy debate amongst participants in order to learn from each other.
  • Quiz competitions are used in Schools and Universities to aid in language development and in particular subject areas of study.
  • It can be used as an assessment tool to measure the growth in the knowledge, abilities and / or skills of the students either on a general level or restricted to specific fields, for instance, science, maths etc.
  • Aiding in language development with the questions based in the language alone.
  • Aiding in the team building process.
  • Being fun to participate in but with a competitive element.
  • Provoking discussion and a healthy debate amongst participating players / teams.
  • Aiding to relieve the tension of the daily work routine.
  • Promoting group harmony, whether in organisations, schools or just a group of friends.
  • Making new friends, from different cultures at times.
  • Likewise spelling bees improve the student’s spellings and vocabulary.
  • Quiz competitions even help build the student’s soft skills
The department of Civil Engineering organised a technical quiz in 2016. This Quiz was an awesome one of its kind which was totally technical. The purpose of organising such a quiz was to enhance the academic knowledge among students regarding the subjects of civil engineering along with the speaking skill before a crowd. Such type of quiz also develops interaction between students and faculty. The students were asked to study five subjects in depth based on which questions were asked. The quiz competition was conducted in the seminar room of civil engineering department. Following subjects were included in the quiz competition.
  • Structural analysis
  • Transportation engineering
  • Building construction and materials
  • Structural design, and
  • Soil mechanics
All teachers were present in the competition for the assessment of the competition. The first winner team was awarded with a trophy, certificates and dictionaries; the second winner team was awarded with certificates and diaries; and the third winner team was awarded with notepads and pens.

Designing of Personalized 8051 Development Board

Event Name: Workshop on “Designing of Personalized 8051 Development Board” Event Date: 16 Jan 2018 Designing of Personalized 8051 Development Board Description One day workshop was organized by the students of 3 rd year for the fellow classmates on Designing of Personalized 8051 Development Board. The workshop comprised of theory lectures and practical lab work. The theory lectures were followed up by Lab work wherein students did various steps of PCB designing like Sheet cutting, etching, tone transferring, soldering and components mounting. The final product was 8051 Development Board. The outcome of the event Leadership quality was inculcated in the students. Technical skills of the students regarding PCB designing got enhanced.

It is one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world in terms of the studios and transmitters. Doordarshan has started replacing its analog transmitters to digital transmitters, which will allow up to 8 channels to be carried from a single transmitter.
